First separate editions of "the most minute study of the antebellum south" (Howes, O77-79). These were originally published in serialized for by the New York Times, and are here published as three separate books sharing the same collective title. If the author's name sounds familiar, he later became a famous landscape architect--he designed New York's Central Park and many other sites. Two of these volumes were inscribed as gifts by Olmsted to his friend and business partner George William Curtis, a noted author in his own right. Included in this set are:
