Matthew Henson made seven Arctic trips with Robert Peary from 1891 to 1909, most notably being credited as the first man to reach the North Pole in 1909. He fathered a son by an Inuit woman in 1906, and has numerous Afro-Inuit descendants today. He is also the great-great-granduncle of the actress Taraji Henson. Work, page 475.
