first edition. An Scottish merchant's travels from 1805 to 1811, with extensive sections on Georgia, New England, the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Canada, and western New York. A long conversation with President Jefferson is recorded on pages I:201-6. The maps in this volume were Melish's first venture into cartography; his later 1816 map of the United States remains a cornerstone.
