An English lace merchant records his impressions of New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Niagara Falls, and numerous towns in Canada. He was most impressed with Boston: "They are first-rate business men: no auctions, which I detest" (page 70). There he also met deaf and blind Laura Bridgman (page 74).
