Additional Details

Myers describes two decades of adventures in the Pacific and elsewhere from 1793 to 1814. He was first impressed into the British Navy, but spent most of his career as a captain of mercantile and privateering vessels. Among the many places discussed here are Alaska, Hawaii, the Galápagos Islands, China, Kamchatka, and Australia (where he recognized a chief constable as a notorious English pickpocket). Despite the global scope of the book, the subscriber list suggests that the bulk of the copies were sold in Myers's native Ireland. Ferguson I:686; Forbes 469; Hill 1213; Howes M933 ("b"); Lada-Mocarski 73; Sabin 51631.
