Additional Details

This album includes photographs from excursions along Colorado's Moffat Line in winter; Trouville in France; aboard the yacht Aloha in 1908; Marblehead, MA; Rose Lake, NH; aboard the SS Lusitania in 1909; Lake Como and Venice, Italy; aboard the speedboat Hobgoblin at Bay Shore, NY; and McCloud River, CA. The yacht Aloha was built in 1899 for Arthur Curtiss James (1867-1941), an Amherst College graduate who inherited a large share of the Phelps Dodge copper conglomerate, and grew yet wealthier investing in railroads. He had homes in Newport, RI, New York, and Miami. This album was likely kept by James or by a friend who vacationed on the Aloha.
