Additional Details

First English edition in book form of what Howes calls the first American history of the whole country. It marks the first appearance of the folding map by Thomas Jefferys, not present in all copies, titled "North America from the French of Mr. D'Anville Improved with the Back Settlements of Virginia and Course of Ohio Illustrated with Geographical and Historical Remarks." Douglass was a physician from Scotland who had settled in Boston. His "Digression Concerning the Small-Pox" near the end of Volume II is a highlight. Guerra a-231n; Howes D436 ("aa"); Sabin 20727 ("no copy has yet been found, in its original state, with the map").
