(TRAVEL--ART HISTORY.) Set of mammoth late-19th century Grand Tour albums covering Europe and the Near East, containing approximately 1050 albumens mounted on thick card, recto-verso, with multiple (i.e., 2-3) images per side. Seven volumes. Large folio, contemporary 1/2 leather over silk, lettered spines, bindings lightly worn; internally quite nice but for some waviness of the card mounts, one leaf detached. [England or America?], (1890-91)

Additional Details

This set was clearly intended as a didactic instrument, to be annotated by the pupil as he learned about the topography, history, and art of the areas in which he was travelling. Each image bears extensive manuscript notes. The bindings carry the name "M.D.M. Clark", the probable Grand Tourist.
