(UNITED STATES LINES.) "Leviathan." Group of 6 documents (with attachments) sent by Captain Hartley to W. F. Gibbs prior to the maiden voyage of the "Leviathan" and on several subsequent voyages, or from Gibbs to Hartley. 5 of the documents are headed by a cover letter Signed by Captain Hartley, Staff Commander H. C. Fish, and Chief Engineer Robert Harrison, stating that the ship "is now ready to proceed on her voyage." Attachments to the letters give details on port costs, fresh water supplies, supplies of lubricating oils, filing of official documents, etc. The letter from the Captain with attachments for the maiden voyage eastward is 16 pages. The packet for the maiden voyage westward is 6 pages and contains 2 TLSs from Gibbs to Hartley. The second voyage eastward is represented by a 4-page TLS from Gibbs to Hartley. The second westward voyage packet contains 3 pages. The third voyage for the ship is represented for both eastward and westward voyages. Together, those 2 packets consist of 12 pages.
