Herbert Samuel Auerbach (1882-1945) was heir to a successful Salt Lake City department store, and became a renowned collector of western Americana, with a particular interest in the early history of Utah and the Mormons. The core of his collection was sold at two Parke Bernet sales in 1947 and 1948. Additional Auerbach auctions were held in 1957, 1959, and 1968.
Offered in this lot are a few invoices for Auerbach's purchases, 1929-44 17 photographs, many of them depicting of Auerbach homes and businesses in Salt Lake City circa 1890s-1940s Pocket promotional mirror issued by F. Auerbach & Bro. 6 deeds and land documents, 1872-1908 Other miscellany from Auerbach's collection Biographical materials on Herbert Auerbach Correspondence and invoices relating to his sister Madeline A. Werner's active dispersal of the remaining collection, 1945-59 and catalogues from the 1948 (partly priced) and 1959 sales. Related Auerbach family papers are held at Brigham Young and University of Utah. Provenance of this and the following 5 lots: the consignor's late father was a friend of Madeline A.
