A very rare poster by the noted American artist Gordon Grant. Bert Williams (1876-1922) was considered to be the greatest black vaudevillian of his day. The sign shows Williams in classic minstrel "black-face." Incredibly, black minstrels and vaudevillians were forced to wear burnt cork, in order to look like white people trying to look like black people!
