Additional Details

Bellermann (1814-1889) was a German artist who drew the originals of these landscapes and botanical illustrations while on a scientific expedition to Venezuela from 1842 to 1845. After his return to Germany they were photographed and laid down in this portfolio for distribution. Included are views drawn near Cumaná, La Guaira, Galipán, Puerto Cabello, Mérida, and Bolívar's birthplace in Aragua (illustrated). OCLC lists 2 copies of an 1868 edition published by Lincke, and more of an 1894 edition by Friedlander with printed illustrations. This copy seems to match the Lincke edition, except for the lack of a publication date. No others known at auction.
