Additional Details

Allen (1751-1814) brother of Ethan Allen, first state treasurer of Vermont and the representative in negotiations for Vermont's independence, attempted to negotiate a separate peace with Britain at the end of the Revolution. Because of conflicts with neighboring states and the Continental Congress, Vermont remained an independent republic until it joined the Union in 1791. This broadside letter is rather scarce. Evans notes items with a similar title from 1790 and 1794 (Evans 46081 and 47312) but none from this date. Not listed in McCorison's Vermont Imprints.<
