Early compilation of the laws of Vermont during its Republic period prior to joining the United States. Includes a printing of the second Vermont Constitution. This copy belonging to Israel Smith (1759-1810), the first Congressman from Vermont, serving several terms in the House, as well as becoming a State Supreme Court Justice and Governor of Vermont. The blank pages in the rear suggest this to be an official copy for a judge or sheriff. Evans 20827; Sabin 99103.
