(VERNACULAR FAMILY)
A pair of albums with more than 1000 photographs by Frank and Kitty Brust documenting their many day trips and life together, and Frank's business.
The Scranton, Pennsylvania couple are shown taking trips and weekend adventures in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including bucolic country scenes, river and lake views, city gatherings, and even flying an airplane. The album documents their social circle in a series of sensitive portraits, and also includes a series of compelling office portraits from Mr. Brust's Dental Company, which specialized in making dentures: the office employees (as well as colleagues in the business) are composed in arty setups behind a bank of drawers or at their desks. Silver prints, the images measuring 4 1/2x2 3/4 inches (11.4x7 cm.), and smaller, and the reverse, most in corners recto/verso, some hand colored, all with either a typed caption or a handwritten identification below the image (some with dates). Oblong 4tos, leather and cloth, twin-bolt bindings, one cover detached. Circa 1915-27
