The soldier was a Specialist 4th Class in the 196th Light Infantry. In this statement he recalls killing a 13-year-old Viet Cong girl near Chu Lai, and adds that to demoralize the enemy, "we would cut off a ear and place the ace of spades on the body--the ace of spades is the card of death."
