Additional Details

Ferdinand the Bull was directed by Dick Rickard, and both Hamilton "Ham" Luske and Ward Kimball worked on animating the picadors. The cartoon won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short of 1938. Released by RKO Radio Pictures, Disney's cartoon was a surprisingly accurate dramatization of the Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson bestselling pacifist children's book The Story of Ferdinand (1936). In the film, the picadors are seen entering the bullring. The desert background was added when this cel was offered for sale by the Disney Studio through an art gallery in the 1940s.
