Additional Details

First printing of Bacon's publication of the National Anthem. It closely follows the first printing issued in Baltimore, but with the addition of an engraved American flag--the first printing to bear the flag. It was issued before the addition of the plate number "17" and the 25¢ price; it was later reissued with this engraving by other publishers (see the next lot). Dichter & Shapiro, page 37; Filby & Howard S12. One other example traced at auction since 1942.
