(WAR OF 1812.) At the Court at Carlton House, the Twenty-Third Day of June 1812. Letterpress broadside, 22 x 17 1/2 inches; minor wear, short repaired tear not affecting text. London, 23 June 1812

Additional Details

An important broadside repealing the Orders in Council which allowed British ships to seize cargoes of neutral ships and to impress seamen. Napoleon's revocation of the Milan and Berlin decrees led the British to answer in kind--this broadside is the response. However, this response was too long in coming, and did not appease an American government which had grown weary of peaceful coercion and the continued violation of its maritime laws and the impressment of its citizens. No copies in WorldCat, and only one other known at auction (Swann, 30 September 1993, lot 59).
