Additional Details

Issued during the brief interlude between the fall of Washington and the bombardment of Baltimore's Fort McHenry, and contains several foreboding items about the anticipated assault. A notice from Baltimore's Committee of Vigilance and Safety urges local citizens not to divulge any information about troop movements in their private correspondence, and the fate of a captured Virginia town is held up to inspire resistance: "The demands made by the British on the city of Alexandria [are] still more humiliating than we have been led to believe or anticipate." Baltimore would survive the rockets' red glare just two weeks later.
