On 18 June 1812, Congress declared war on the United Kingdom. The official news had apparently not reached London by 6 August, but this newspaper contains a long 18 June report from Boston: "Measures of direct hostility against Great Britain have received the sanction of one branch of the Legislature, and probably have already become law."
