Additional Details

Many of these documents show expenses for the war of 1812 in surprising detail. "A Statement of the Expenditure of Monies Apppropriated for the Military Establishment for the Year 1813" contains 18 folding tables listing specific contingent expenses, such as an officer getting his baggage sent home after his release from parole; or a lieutenant's cost for "the hire of music" en route from Sackett's Harbor. The "Annual Report of the Commissioners of the Navy Pension Fund" lists all of the individual pensioners with their rank and state of residence. No list available.
