Washington purchased several plots of land along the Little Miami and Ohio Rivers from Revolutionary War veterans who had received it in payment for service. This 839 acre plot was originally part of military warrant 3453 and is listed in Washington's will. In a 27 January 1798 letter to Withrop Sargent (published in Fitzpatrick) Washington inquires after his claim on the property and mentions that the land was surveyed on 28 December 1787.
