Additional Details

Fifth edition, improved. Biography of Andrew Jackson with a warm presentation inscription from Martha Washington's granddaughter to the Marquis de Lafayette: "To Marquis de la Fayette, the comrade of Washington whose esteem is precious to his American brethren, this life of Major General Jackson the conqueror of Wellington's Veterans is presented by his affectionate, grateful & devoted friend, Eliza Parke Custis." Eliza Parke Custis was the daughter of John Parke Custis, George Washington's stepson. The volume was possibly given by Custis to Lafayette during his 1824 tour of the United States; the two carried on an extensive correspondence.
