Additional Details

"I am stoping about eight miles from the city and I am in the wood business. I keep two teams driving all of the tim. . . . I have seen the elephant in all forms since I been here in this country. Some times I thought I had my fortune in a short tim, that is in the mines. I have made money in one mine and lost it in annother untill I got sick of the mines. Since I came to this state I have let the mines alone. . . . what money I make is by hard work. What I call hard work is to be up at four o'clock in the morning and work until 9 at night, and this I have done for the last three years."
