Additional Details

Highlights include three images shot by Savage & Ottinger of Salt Lake City: a portrait of Brigham Young, a view of the "New Tabernacle" (completed in 1867), and a view of "Main Street, Salt Lake City" (illustrated) which we have been unable to trace elsewhere. Visible are signs for "Gurney & Co., Boots and Shoes," "Dry Goods, Groceries, Hardware, Drugs &c," and "Stage Office" (with a covered wagon out front).
Early Colorado is another focus, including a view of an imposing residence shot by the National Gallery of Art in Central City. Portraits taken in Denver include a circa 1870 hand-colored portrait of Birks Cornforth, Jr., aged 3; and apparently his mother Caroline Cooper Cornforth. Birks Cornforth (an early Denver grocer) seems to be shown in a Chicago portrait shown nearby. Other photographs are from Chicago, Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, and St. Louis. One shows the Park Place Hotel in St. Paul, MN.
