Additional Details

The first 4 images show the buildings in a very humble downtown. These images are uncaptioned and uncredited, but the name of the Elk Creek Mining Company appears several times, and the first image shows a building bearing the name of [Mi]lner. Another shows the mine-owned Elk Creek Hotel, and another building promises "Beer." The other images show coal-mining operations, including Union Pacific trains, horse-drawn carts full of coal, mechanical equipment, and two shots of miners deep in the mine (illustrated). The Elk Creek coal mine near Milner was mentioned in several Colorado newspapers from 1917 to 1920.
