Herbert T. Shaw. Photograph of fraternal marchers at an Independence Day parade in Tonopah. Silver print, 6½ x 8¼ inches, on original photographer's mount with faint stamp in lower margin; minor wear to mount. An image from the 4th of July celebration at the silver boomtown of Tonopah in central Nevada. Wyatt Earp had lived there three years earlier. These exotically dressed men hold a banner reading "Mizpah Lodge No. 25, K of P, Tonopah, Nev." They were members of the national fraternal order, the Knights of Pythias. Tonopah, NV, 4 July 1906.

"1907 Fourth of July Celebration at Silver Peak. Ho! All You Desert Terrapins, Burro Punchers and Hard Rock Miners of Nevada, Take Notice." Letterpress broadside, 12 x 9 inches; folds, contemporary pencil note in lower margin. Promises a barbeque, a performance of Fong Kee's Chinese Band, a boat race on the lake, swimming, and deep sea diving contests. 4 July 1907.

"The Big Day! . . . Nevada's Booming, Roaring, Gold Camp Searchlight Blazes Forth." Illustrated broadside, 20 x 12¼ inches; moderate spotting, minimal wear. This Independence Day celebration featured two unlikely hosts: Hollywood stars Clara Bow and Rex Bell, who both had vacation homes in the area. Also on offer were a terrapin derby, a performance by the Needles band, bronco busting, and bulldogging "by movie stars and cow punchers." Searchlight, NV, 4 July [1931].

"Free! Silver Peak, Nevada, July Fourth." Letterpress broadside, 17¾ x 11½ inches; worn at corners with 1-inch puncture in first word, archivally reinforced. This celebration features bicycle and foot races for boys and girls, a "ladies' ball game" between Silver Peak and Nivloc, a parachute jump, and three boxing matches between local miners. Goldfield, NV: Goldfield News Print, 4 July [1939].

Packet of testimonial letters for the Austin Manhattan Consolidated Mining Company. 65 typed letters with ink-stamped signatures on a variety of letterheads, 11 x 8½ inches, bound at top edge with 3 brads and a worn plain partial wrapper; minimal wear to contents. Austin Manhattan Consolidated owned a large number of mines centered in the Austin, NV area. They solicited these letters of support to attract investment, and apparently had their supporters produce multiple copies on letterhead, with stamped signatures to allow for ease of reproduction while still looking like unique originals. They are written by mining experts, former employees, and prominent citizens of Austin. Various places, 1908-1909.
