Additional Details

The Texas Prison Rodeo was an annual fundraising event from 1931 to 1986, featuring inmates competing before large crowds in a Huntsville stadium. Johnny Cash played his first concert there; a character in the 1980 film Urban Cowboy was a former Texas Prison Rodeo champion. This lot features 8 posed group shots of the participants; 2 action shots of prisoners on horseback; one of a badly injured rider being carried out on a stretcher; and 2 close-up portraits of participants. A shot of women's prison inmates chasing pigs is captioned "Legs and Bacon."
