The earliest bill of sale is for a share in the Newport, RI ship Alliance, dated 1819; the ship was not a whaler at that time, but was apparently fitted out for whaling by the same owners in 1822. Also included are the Splendid of Martha's Vineyard, 1835 Abigail of New Bedford, 1840 Ocmulgee of Martha's Vineyard, 1844 Harbinger of Westport, MA, 1840 Natchez of New Bedford, 1851 William & Henry of Fairhaven, MA, 1870 and Lancer of New Bedford, 1875.
