(WHALING) Stow, Manasseh. Two manuscript journals detailing three sealing and trading voyages on the Brig Cornelia, the Brig Wasp and the Brig Unity, the latter two as Captain, mostly in the sealing grounds off the coasts of Peru and Chile, but also including various South Pacific Islands, Australia, New Zealand and islands in the South Indian Ocean. The first over 70 pages. Folio, contemporary marbled paper wrappers, detached; minor staining. The second, approximately 240 pages, plus about a dozen small pen, brush and wash drawings of various islands or natural history subjects tipped in (including a lovely image of Dusky Bay). Folio, contemporary 1/2 calf, backstrip perished, covers detached; many leaves or signatures detached, many chipped at edges but with minimal loss, lacks the first two pages of this journal, else appears complete. Both very legible. Vp, 8 September 1821-7 May 1825; 13 May 1825-28 February 1828
