Additional Details

The quadruple-screw ship was built for the Hamburg-American Line as the "Bismarck." She was launched in 1914 but was never entirely fitted out before the war basically put her in mothballs. She was finished after the war and turned over to the British Shipping Controller who then sold her to the White Star Line. She began her maiden voyage under the White Star flag in May 1922. She was sold to the British Admiralty in 1936 and renamed "Caledonia." Three years later she was destroyed by fire and scrapped soon thereafter.
