Group of 235 photographs of window displays by the distinguished design and window display artist Ray Hardy Wills, including displays at I. Magnin and Macy's West.
Wills' early displays from the 1960s, which are rendered in black-and-white, are spare and stylish; key lighting is an important element in creating visual drama. His later displays include a host of well-dressed mannekins with Asian, Black, or Caucasian features; tag lines like "The well bred wardrobe" or "The splendor begins" appear as signage. Silver (220) and crhomogenic (18) prints, the images measuring 9 3/4x7 3/4 inches (24.8x19.7 cm.), and the reverse, the sheets slightly larger, with the photographers' hand stamps on verso. 1960s-70s.
AND--Archive of materials relating to Wills' career, including tear sheets, sheets from photo albums, and memorabilia.
