First edition. Biographies from Phillis Wheatley to Harriet Tubman to Madam C.J. Walker, and dozens of other less well-remembered women, produced as "a token of regard to the history-making women of our race." The introduction is by educator Josephine Turpin Washington. Many of the biographies were written by the compiler, a president of the National Association of Colored Women who hailed from Wilberforce, OH. Some of the other profiles were written by noted educators Maritcha Lyons, Ora B. Stokes, Jennie B. Moton, and Charlotte E. Stephens. Blockson 3051n; not in Afro-Americana.
