"Is Mankind Advancing?" was a well-received analysis of the dire state of human civilization, its answer essentially being "No." The author, a resident of Staten Island, NY who published as Mrs. John Martin, later published "Feminism, Its Fallacies and Follies" and "Prohibiting Poverty." Among the responses included in this scrapbook are a brief typed Letter Signed from Theodore Roosevelt, New York, 27 February 1911 a partial Letter Signed from H.G. Wells, Eure, France, circa April 1911 and Autograph Letters Signed by Andrew Carnegie and John Burroughs.
