Large broadside world map favorably decorated with costumed figures representing the countries of the world, composite landscape panoramas and assorted informational tables. Though bearing the date of 1847, Texas is named separately from the United States. One interesting aspect of the map is a fixation on a Western trade route to China via an overland railroad from New York to the mouth of the Columbia River, afterwhich the journey continues across the Pacific Ocean. The imprint varies from Rumsey, with two additional sellers added and Ensign & Thayer's address changed to 50 Ann St. from 36 Ann St., New York.
