These four men were the last surviving crewmen of the Enola Gay, and appeared jointly at least three times between 1995 and 1997 to discuss their role in the still controversial bombing, which killed more than 100,000 civilians. In their minds, there was no controversy. When asked at the United States Air Force Museum whether he would do it again, pilot Paul Tibbets replied "If under the same circumstances, without a shadow of a doubt. Nothing has ever unified the United States of America such as this" (Dayton Daily News, 4 August 1997).
