Additional Details

The glory days of newspaper broadside extras had already passed by 1918, but the editors of this small-town Oregon newspaper felt the need to get a jump on the news of the Armistice. The provenance of the news and its rapid journey halfway across the globe can be traced, from its original signing in France to the arrival of the news "at 5:10 this morning 'flash time', London"; to the United Press announcement made in Washington several hours later at 2:15 a.m; to the message received 45 minutes later at midnight in Roseburg, to the publication of this broadside at 1:30 a.m., "posted before the whistles blew announcing this great event in the world's history."
