Additional Details

Two items in this lot relate directly to the trials. Both are contemporary carbon copies. One, dated 6 November 1945, sets out three cases of alleged atrocities committed by the Japanese, including cannibalism, torture, and the lynching of downed pilots by Japanese civilians. The second memorandum, dated eight days later, summarizes the testimony of a Korean man that two American pilots "were tortured while in prison and were forced to eat human faeces." Also included are numerous memoranda concerning the trial's interpreters and staff on this project, as well as prosecutor Nelson Buhler's personnel papers.
