Additional Details

This program was issued for an entertainment aboard the Oklahoma just 17 days before the surprise attack at Pearl Harbor killed 432 of its men and sank the battleship. The program promises a tasty holiday menu to the officers and crew, including papaya cocktail, roast turkey, "candied island yams", and cigarettes. The ship's officers are listed, including the ship's tragic captain Howard D. Bode, who was not aboard the ship during the attack and killed himself two years later while under investigation; and Commander Jesse L. Kenworthy, who would soon give the order to abandon ship during the attack. As an aside, Thanksgiving was held on the third Thursday of November in 1941; 1942 would be the first year it was observed on the fourth Thursday.
