Subtitle of the image is "Public Test of Cyrus McCormick's Invention: Steele's Tavern, Virginia, July 1831. Commissioned by International Harvester Co. in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the McCormick Reaper, which had signaled the beginning of the emancipation of the American farmer. The original of the painting was destroyed in a fire. A bright, clean image. Not examined out of frame. Allen 291 (entry); 149, 152. <
