Yellow Magic Orchestra was an early, Japanese electronic music band, considered to be the progenitors of "technopop." Through their extensive use of samplers, drum machines, sequencers and other electronic equipment they were also very influential to Hip Hop. By 1980 they were the most popular group in Japan and had begun to tour internationally, that same year appearing on the seminal American TV show Soul Train.
