Additional Details

Smith looks forward to "the news that the Virginians, notwithstanding their difficulties & supineness, having a little assistance from our good ally, have put an end to the campaign for this year. Surely Cornwallis & Arnold can never be permitted to escape." Arnold did escape, and it took a few months to capture Cornwallis, but Smith's hopes were essentially realized.
