Additional Details

This French officer's fighting spirit was strong, his command of the English language somewhat less so: "I will order my regiment . . . to march with your troops, and take the waggons ready agreable to yours orders. . . . I will be happy if we could have some think to do with Tarleton and Simco. I wish wery much to make farther acquaintance with those gentlemens. I intend to command myself the Legion." Lauzun's Legion did make further acquaintance with Colonel Tarleton of the British army, in a skirmish five days later. Quoted in Ward, Duty, Honor or Country, page 223.
