Additional Details

The first image in this handsomely compiled album is a cabinet card portrait. The sitter is unknown, but the photographer was F.A. (Filipe Augusto) Fidanza (1844-1903), a well-known Brazilian photographer who worked in the northern states of Pará and Amazonas. Most of the images are unmounted views, about 6 x 4 inches, inserted into oval album mounts. Locations include the Pará capital of Belém (such as the statute of General Gurjão, the Arsenal da Marinha, and the Ver o Peso waterfront market), Bragança, the train station in Benevides (illustrated), a sugar cane mill (injenho) in Pinto Braga, and many other churches, streets, buildings, and rural views. 5 of the mounts are printed with attractive chromolithographed nature scenes by "M & Co."
