"The Spook Who Sat by the Door" was the best-known work by Chicago author Samuel Eldred Greenlee, Jr. (1930-2014). The award-winning novel was released in 1969, and the film adaptation followed in 1973. It tells the story of an undercover Black Nationalist who becomes a CIA officer, and goes on to lead a national revolution.
