These records were kept by whaling merchant and ship owner Luther Dutton Cook (1794-1866) of Sag Harbor, NY. Includes: Receipt book containing signatures of men paid for work on ships, whale oil, etc. Some bear distinctly African-American names such as Lewis Cuffee. [256] pages, 1822-35 Manuscript abstract of Sag Harbor Customs House whaling ship entries, listing barrels of oil for each ship. [52] pages, 1789-1849 A neater manuscript version of the same. [40] pages, 1804-45 Ledger and record book of the Atlantic Whaling Company. Includes the constitution, by-laws and meeting minutes [61 pages] and ledger, 105 pages, 1829-40 Similar volume, [26] pages of by-laws and minutes for 1840-42 (possibly missing leaves) and 78 ledger pages, 1839-42 Inventory of supplies on board the ship Columbia's 13th voyage out of Sag Harbor, with illustration of the ship and its signals.
