A . M. CASSANDRE (ADOLPHE MOURON, 1901-1968) 2 HERMES SILK SCARVES (Pink and Yellow). 1951.
34 1/4x34 1/4 inches.
Condition A. Silk.
That Cassandre's work transcended the world of graphic art and became more fully integrated into other aspects of everyday life became fact in 1947, when Hermes commissioned Cassandre to design a deck of playing cards. Four years later Hermes returned to him and asked him to create a design for their world-famous silk scarves. Produced in at least five different colors, the design of a structure amidst clouds, is a highly elaborate, Escher-esque architectural construction with a sophisticated play on perspective. Reproduced by Hermes in 1991, these scarves remain one of the company's classic designs. Cassandre / Suntory p. 107.
