A. DESFILIS VALENCIA--PLAYA DEL MEDITERRANEO. Circa 1900.
37 1/2x49 inches. J. Ortega, Valencia.
Condition B+: restoration along vertical and horizontal folds.
A bright, colorful and information-filled poster for the Spanish city of Valencia featuring two elegant women on the Mediterranean coast beneath a tree laden with famous Valencia Oranges, one with a basket of flowers, the other with a camera. In one inset a listing of the appealing meteorological statistics for the city, and in the other an image of the Puente de Serranos, a bridge over the river Turia to the Torres de Serranos, part of the old city walls from the 15th century. Since major flooding in 1957, the Turia river was diverted from the center of the city and the riverbed is now dry. Most likely this poster was printed for distribution in different European countries with the weather report appearing in different languages. Voyage p. 22.
