A. HORI (DATES UNKNOWN) OAKLAND / GENERAL MOTORS. Circa 1925.
41 3/4x29 inches, 106x73 1/2 cm.
Condition B+ / B: creases along sharp vertical and horizontal folds; minor tears at edges; minor loss in right margin. Paper.
The Oakland was manufactured by General Motors between 1909 and 1931. In the mid 1920s it was the basis for the "companion brand," Pontiac, which soon overtook its parent in sales. This extremely rare poster aimed at the Japanese market effectively juxtaposes traditional Japan, in the pastel colored background, with the mechanical future in the foreground.
